How to see stats on PokerNow

  1. Add PokerNow HUD Advanced to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Agree to the privacy policy in the window that opens.
  3. Open a PokerNow game. The HUD starts on its own, and the table’s earlier hands come in by themselves.

The HUD builds every stat from the game log of the tables you open, which includes players’ names. The full walkthrough, with bet sizes, notes and fixes, is in How to use a HUD on PokerNow.

The 10 stats the HUD leans on

Breakdowns

Most stats are also kept in narrower versions, so the HUD can show the number for the exact spot:

  • Position: early (UTG and the seats after it), middle (lojack and hijack), cutoff, button, small blind, big blind, and straddle.
  • In or out of position against the other player.
  • Pot type: limped, single-raised, 3-bet, and 4-bet or more.
  • Heads-up or multiway.

When a narrow version has fewer than 12 chances, the HUD steps back to a broader one, and the tooltip says which version you’re seeing.

What the colors mean

Gold means above the HUD’s typical range and blue means below it; numbers inside the range stay plain. A faded number has fewer than 12 chances behind it (win rate: fewer than 100 hands). Hover or tap any number for its definition, the sample behind it (such as “9 of 31 opportunities”), the typical range and a read hint.

Typical isn’t a target

The ranges are rough population guides the HUD uses for color. Your game may run looser or tighter.

Player types

After 30 hands with a player, the HUD sums up their style in one word on their badge. Until 60 hands the type is faded, because it can still change. The HUD checks these in order and uses the first that fits.

Player types in the order the HUD checks them
TypeWhen the HUD uses itHow they playHow to play against them
ManiacVPIP 40% or more and PFR 26% or morePlays lots of hands and raises most of them.Tighten up, call down lighter and let them bluff.
WhaleVPIP 55% or more, PFR under 55% of VPIPPlays most hands and rarely raises.Raise their limps with a wide value range, value-bet thin, don’t bluff.
StationVPIP 26% or more, WTSD over 34% and AF under 1.5, once they’ve seen at least 15 flops and made at least 8 calls after the flopCalls a lot after the flop and goes to showdown often.Value-bet thinner and stop bluffing.
FishVPIP 30% or more, PFR under 55% of VPIPPlays too many hands, mostly by calling.Isolate them and value-bet; bluff less.
LAGVPIP 28% or more, PFR at least 55% of VPIPLoose-aggressive: plays many hands and plays them hard.3-bet them for value and call down a little lighter.
NitVPIP under 15%Plays very few hands.Steal their blinds; fold to their raises without a strong hand.
RockVPIP under 22%, PFR under 55% of VPIPTight-passive: plays few hands and rarely raises.Bet when they check; respect their raises.
TAGVPIP under 28%, PFR at least 55% of VPIPTight-aggressive: a solid, selective player.Avoid marginal spots against them; pick on others.

“PFR at least 55% of VPIP” means they raise at least 55% of the hands they play: a 28/16 player qualifies for LAG, a 28/15 player doesn’t. A passive player (PFR under 55% of VPIP) with VPIP from 22% to 29% gets no type unless they fit Station: their style sits between the types.

The rules use the numbers as the badge shows them: VPIP, PFR and WTSD in whole percents, AF to one decimal. A pill reading 40/26 is a Maniac, whatever the decimals behind it. Fish, Whale, Station and Maniac show in gold, Nit and Rock in blue, LAG and TAG plain, the same colors as the numbers. Hover a type on the table for how they play, how to play against them and the numbers behind it.

A type isn’t a tag. Tags are labels you give players yourself, such as Reg, Fish or one of your own, in a colored chip in front of the numbers; the type is the HUD’s call from their numbers and sits after them. A player you tagged Fish can still be typed Station. When your tag and their type are the same word, the small badge shows it once.

Reads

A read is a stat’s read hint turned into a sentence about one player, such as “Overfolds to 3-bets: 3-bet bluff more.” The HUD shows one only when the stat has at least 12 chances behind it (aggression factor needs 20 bets, raises and calls after the flop, at least 8 of them calls) and sits outside the typical range by at least its sampling error (one standard error), so a few hands never make a read. Only stats with a read hint in the tables above can make one. The player panel lists up to four, strongest first, and the player database up to eight; the same advice from several streets shows once. On your own badge, the same reads show what other players can use against you.

Questions about PokerNow stats

How many hands before stats mean something?

The HUD fades any number with fewer than 12 chances behind it. VPIP and PFR pass 12 after about 12 hands, since almost every hand counts toward them; rare spots, like facing a 4-bet, take far longer.

What’s a good VPIP and PFR?

The HUD treats VPIP from 18% to 38% and PFR from 12% to 26% as typical; outside those ranges the number turns blue or gold. A wide gap between the two means a player calls far more often than they raise.

What do Fish, Nit and LAG mean on the HUD?

They’re player types. After 30 hands with a player, the HUD sums up their style from VPIP, PFR and, for a Station, showdowns and aggression: a Fish plays too many hands, mostly by calling; a Nit plays very few hands; a LAG plays many hands and plays them hard. A colored chip in front of the numbers is something else: a tag you gave the player yourself.

Do stats follow a player who changes their name?

Yes. Stats are keyed to the player’s PokerNow ID, so a new name doesn’t reset them, and the player database finds players by any name they’ve used.

Can I export my stats?

You can export a backup file from the player database and restore it later. It doesn’t export hand histories for desktop poker trackers.

Which games does it support?

No-Limit Hold’em (NLHE) on pokernow.com. Other games, such as Omaha, aren’t supported.
